John has 12 years experience as a community organizer working with low- and moderate-income residents to address community issues, such as community policing, school reform, and economic development, nine of which he has been a director. Previously, he worked for five years as an engineer in the electronics industry. John has an Engineering degree from Michigan State University and has also worked as a consumer advocate, lobbying on such issues as identity theft and utility issues.
Jonathan Goldman, Executive Director

Jonathan has worked on environmental policies and advocacy in Illinois for more than 16 years, joining the IEC in 2002. Previously he was policy and governmental affairs director with the Citizens Utility Board, a statewide utility consumer advocacy organization. He has also served as executive director of the Lead Elimination Action Drive, a community-based coalition working on childhood lead poisoning prevention issues. In 2004 Jonathan was honored by Crain's Chicago Business as a "40 under 40" rising star. Jonathan lives in Chicago with his wife Monica Lasky and their daughters Cassidy and Chelsea.
Chrissy Maher, Membership Coordinator

Chrissy has recently rejoined the IEC after serving as an intern in 2006. She graduated from Saint Louis University with a major in Sociology and a minor in Theology. While attending Saint Louis, she volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and has also interned in the Springfield office of Senator Richard J. Durbin.
Mary Pemberton, Administrative Director

Mary oversees IEC's Springfield office and performs all of IEC's accounting and administrative functions. She has been with IEC for 3 1/2 years. She originally joined IEC as office manager/bookkeeper before being promoted two years ago to her current role as administrative coordinator. Prior to joining IECEF, Mary served as fiscal manager for Senior Services of Central Illinois. Mary lives in Springfield with her husband Larry. She has a son, Adam, and a daughter Haley.
Gail Philbin, Communications and Marketing Director

Gail Philbin has 22 years experience in writing and non-profit communications, fundraising, special events, and volunteer management. She started her environmental career at the Illinois Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, and more recently, founded Farms Without Harm, a network of groups and individuals that supports sustainable farming in Michigan. That effort spawned the West Michigan Co-op, a regional farmers market that links local producers and consumers year-round via the internet. Gail has a bachelor's in Psychology and master's in Advertising from the University of Illinois and an master of fine arts in Painting from Southern Illinois University.
Marise Robbins-Forbes, Rolling on the River Event Director

Marise has led Millikin University's grant development, served as director of development for national early childhood education organization Baby TALK and was executive director of the Howard Buffett Foundation. She holds three degrees in the sciences from Indiana University, with a specialty in freshwater biology and professional certification as a wetland scientist, and has worked as an environmental consultant managing large wetland mitigation and permitting projects in Florida for a Fortune 500 company. Marise lives in Decatur with her husband and two young daughters. She enjoys playing the flute, bird watching, hiking, bicycling, photography and spending time with her active family.
